The Water-type Pokémon Piplup was the star of January‘s Pokémon GO Community Day. In the northern hemisphere, this month’s Community Day event happened on Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. local time. In the southern hemisphere, the event happened on Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time.
Piplup was appearing much more frequently in the wild and in raids during this time, and if you’re lucky, you might even find a Shiny Piplup! This means that Shiny Piplup, Shiny Prinplup and Shiny Empoleon officially made their Pokémon GO debuts. If you evolved Prinplup (the evolved form of Piplup) into Empoleon during the event or up to two hours afterward, the Empoleon learned Hydro Cannon, an attack it can’t normally learn!
By spinning PokéStops during Community Day hours, you may have received Eggs that will hatch into Piplup. Plus, Lure Modules lasted for three hours and Eggs required one-quarter the usual Hatch Distance when placed in Incubators during the event.
