Understanding the Championship Points System
Each Championship Series event has a Best Finish Limit. This is the maximum number of scores that can count for that series, with higher-scoring placements replacing lower scores. For example, Regionals has a Best Finish Limit of 4. This means that each player can only count their 4 highest Regionals scores. They may play in as many Regionals events as they like, and high scores earned in later events will replace lower scores earned in the first 4.
All Championship Series events award Championship Points to players who finish 1st in their age division. Players finishing below 1st place earn points only if the attendance in their age division reaches a specific threshold. For example, if an age division has at least 8 players, the 3rd- and 4th-place finishers get points. If an age division has at least 32 players, the 5th- through 8th-place finishers get points, and so on. This attendance threshold is called the Kicker.
VG Championship Points Tables
Championship Points will be used to determine various awards during the 2016–2017 season, including Pokémon World Championships invitations.
