Earlier this week, Apple announced it was launching ARKit, a new augmented reality tool that makes the iPhone one of the biggest AR platforms. During its 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference presentation, Apple showed off various ways ARKit can be used and the applications or games that will run through it. At the forefront was a better version of Pokémon GO that will remain exclusive to the iPhone.
Although Apple started looking into AR and VR technologies before Pokémon GO launched, it was the success of the game that helped Apple decided to push forward as strongly as they have. Apple made 30 percent of every Pokémon GO download and, with more downloads at one point than Snapchat, made the company a significant amount of money. Apple is aiming to reclaim some of the craze it saw with Pokémon GO with ARKit. Will the company be able to pull it off? It’s only a matter of time before anyone can tell.
