New Pokémon TCG expansion Explosive Impact launches September 7 in Japan, suggests Pokémon Switch won’t arrive until 2019

Nintendo has yet to reveal when we’ll receive substantial news on the first core console Pokémon RPG and Generation 8 Pokémon, but that hasn’t stopped people from sharing rumors of all sorts. A number of reports are pointing toward the titles of the highly-anticipated game, one of which is apparently called Pokémon Let’s Go! Pikachu. The second version is reportedly called Pokémon Let’s Go! Eevee. According to Emily Rogers of popular gaming forum ResetEra, the game will officially be announced by the end of this month and is heavily inspired by the immensely successful Pokémon GO. In a more recent forum post, Rogers has reiterated that Pokémon Switch will be announced within the next few days and before June.

In addition, domains for both Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee have been registered by the same company Nintendo used to register the official website domain for Pokémon Sun and Moon. Nintendo also recently applied for a trademark for Eevee’s official Chinese name in Hong Kong. Nintendo also recently registered for trademarks for Pokémon and Pikachu in Japan. Many are speculating that these trademarks are directly related to Pokémon Switch. A Pokémon for Nintendo Switch placeholder is now being listed at Walmart for $79.96 and a December 31 ship date in Canada. Nintendo has also filed for new Eevee trademarks in China with special images to go along with them.

A recent tweet from the official Project Eevee led to an overwhelming number of Nintendo fans assuming that a Pokémon Switch announcement was planned for May 28; however, it turns out that this is was not the case. Elsewhere, Nintendo recently uploaded the same private video to three different local channels on YouTube. Fans are speculating that this might be related to a Pokémon Direct presentation for Pokémon Switch. This claim is further supported by Nintendo Italy and Nintendo Germany, which uploaded the aforementioned video to their Pokémon playlists.

The Pokémon Company recently announced that the upcoming Pokémon TCG expansion Explosive Impact will launch in Japan on September 7, 2018. This date might point toward when Pokémon Switch may arrive. A Pokémon TCG expansion of the current generation normally launches several months before a new Pokémon generation video game. Based on this established practice, Pokémon Switch may actually be released in 2019 instead of this year.
