Eevee Month: Most impressive Pokémon TCG appearances by Eevee and its Evolutions

Eevee and Company’s Prize-Winning Pokémon TCG Cards. See some of the most impressive Pokémon Trading Card Game appearances by Eevee and its Evolutions.

Not surprisingly, Eevee and its many Evolutions have made multiple appearances in the Pokémon Trading Card Game over the years. Collectors want all of them, of course, but which of these cards are most desirable for competitive players? Look back through Eevee’s history in the Pokémon TCG and see which cards will help put your opponents on edge.

Eevee

In general, if you’re going to play one of Eevee’s Evolutions in your deck, you need to include an Eevee for it to evolve from! Eevee has had multiple TCG appearances throughout the years, but this one from the Sun & Moonexpansion is one of the strongest to date. When the player attaches a basic Energy to Eevee, its Energy Evolution Ability allows them to search their deck for an Eevee Evolution of the same type. This Eevee has been used in a lot of tournaments, and it’s still eligible for play in the 2019 Championship Series season.

Vaporeon

Eevee’s Water-type Evolution, Vaporeon, had an interesting card in the XY—Ancient Originsexpansion. When you have Vaporeon in play, thanks to its Aqua Effect Ability, every Stage 1 Pokémon on your side of the board becomes a Water type—in addition to its existing types. During a time when many decks hinged on the powerful Volcanion-EX, this Ability allowed any Stage 1 Pokémon to attack Volcanion-EX for Weakness. The strategy was so powerful, it helped win a Regional Championships in 2017.

Jolteon ex

Jolteon ex was a key part of the Legendary Ascent deck that won the 2007 World Championships. When your Eevee evolved into this Lightning-type Pokémon from the EX Delta Species expansion, you could use its Evolutionary Thunder Poké-Power to put a damage counter on all of your opponent’s Pokémon. It paired nicely with other cards that could take advantage of those damage counters, such as Absol ex.

Flareon

The Black & White—Plasma Freeze expansion included this Fire-type Flareon, which helped Trainers find success in both the Standard and Expanded formats for several years. Flareon’s Vengeance attack, which does 20 damage plus 10 more damage for each Pokémon in the player’s discard pile, was frequently paired with Battle Compressor, which allows the player to move any 3 cards directly from their deck into the discard pile. Having enough disposable Pokémon in your deck could turn Flareon into a one-hit KO powerhouse!

Espeon-GX

The Psychic-type Espeon-GX from the Sun & Moon expansion was a fearsome partner with Garbodor at the 2017 World Championships, and it appeared in winning Regional Championships decks in the 2018 season. Against a Pokémon that has a lot of Energy attached, Espeon-GX‘s Psychic attack can be devastating. Its Divide-GX attack is also quite useful when you need the flexibility to spread a lot of damage around to multiple opposing Pokémon. Like Eevee, Espeon-GX is still a card that players can build decks around in the Standard format in 2019.

Umbreon ex

Umbreon ex‘s Darker Ring Poké-Power could pull a Pokémon off the opponent’s Bench and into battle, similar to Lycanroc-GX‘s Bloodthirsty Eyes Ability. This type of effect has always been great in the Pokémon TCG, and in Umbreon ex‘s case, it was particularly effective when used in combination with its Black Cry attack, which prevented the Defending Pokémon from retreating or using any Poké-Powers of its own during the opponent’s next turn. The Darkness-type Umbreon ex from the EX Unseen Forces expansion was an important card during the 2006 World Championships.

Leafeon LV.X

The Grass-type Pokémon Leafeon made a notable appearance in the Diamond & Pearl—Majestic Dawn expansion in the form of Leafeon LV.X. This card’s Energy Forcing Poké-Power provided a reliable way to attach an extra Energy card to your Pokémon every turn, which also fueled Leafeon LV.X‘s Verdant Dance attack. Verdant Dance does 30 damage plus 10 more damage for each Energy attached to all of your Pokémon, so with a properly built-up team, it could become a powerful attack. With that kind of potential, it’s no surprise that this card took root in quite a few popular decks during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

Glaceon-GX

One look into Glaceon-GX‘s piercing eyes, and you’re bound to get caught in its Freezing Gaze! When this Water-type Pokémon is Active, its Ability locks down the Abilities of all of the opponent’s Pokémon-GX and Pokémon-EX, which could dismantle their strategy. This card from the Sun & Moon—Ultra Prism expansion has shown some promise in competitive play, and it could easily find itself as part of a great deck down the road.

Sylveon-GX

The Fairy-type Sylveon-GX from the Sun & Moon—Guardians Rising expansion has an impressive GX attack. Plea-GX lets you put two of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon and all cards attached to them into your opponent’s hand—a good way to undo any elaborate setup your rival has been preparing. Sylveon-GX‘s true strength, however, lies in its Magical Ribbon attack. For just one Fairy Energy, the attack allows you to search your deck for any 3 cards and put them into your hand. This gives you the chance to set up your own elaborate strategies by giving you access to any of your cards.

One of Eevee’s strongest assets is its versatility. As you can see from this list, having an Eevee card in your collection gives you several options for Evolution, allowing you to fit the adorable Pokémon into just about any deck you come up with. How can you adapt Eevee to your gameplay strategy?
