A Colossal Discovery Special Research Event: Frequently Asked Questions

What is this event?

This Special Research story event is a new ticketed experience available globally in the Pokémon GO app. Players who purchase a ticket can open their app during the Special Research story event time to receive access to a new Special Research: A Colossal Discovery! This is an in-game event that is not tied to a set location, and players can play wherever Pokémon GO is available.

A ticket to this event will grant the following:

  • A new Special Research story event concluding with an early-access encounter with Regigigas, arriving in Pokémon GO for the first time.
  • A Colossal Discovery medal.
  • Up to 10 additional Raid Passes at no cost during the Special Research story event time period when you spin a Photo Disc at a Gym. These Raid Passes will not be available after the event period is over. You cannot hold more than one Raid Pass at once.
  • A Unova Stone, a Sinnoh Stone, and an exclusive avatar pose as Special Research rewards.

Even without a ticket, players can experience encountering a unique combination of Pokémon in raids, in the wild, and in Eggs from Friday, November 1, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, November 4, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT. During this time, Regirock, Regice, and Registeel will be available to encounter in five-star raids, and Trainers will have a chance to encounter their Shiny variants.

Do I have to go somewhere specific to play this event?

Starting on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in your local time zone, this event will activate if you have a purchased ticket. This is an in-game event not tied to a particular physical location, and players can play wherever Pokémon GO is available. Gather fellow Trainers and be prepared to take on a lot of Raid Battles throughout the event until it ends at 7:00 p.m. in your local time zone!

How do I buy a ticket?

  1. Access the shop from the main Poké Ball menu.
  2. Scroll down to see the ticketed-event banner.
  3. Tap on the Learn More button in the shop.
  4. Tap on the Purchase button. The ticket cannot be purchased with PokéCoins.
  5. You will then receive a pop-up indicating that you have received a ticket for A Colossal Discovery. Once you click OK, the ticket will appear in your Item Bag.
  6. Before the event, you will receive a medal. When the event begins and you open the app during the event time, you’ll receive access to the Special Research titled A Colossal Discovery.

Can I buy a ticket with PokéCoins?

This ticket is not eligible to be purchased with PokéCoins.
What if I buy a ticket but can only play during a portion of the event time? What if I don’t complete the Special Research quests by the end of the event?

If you purchase a ticket, we encourage you to play for the maximum amount of time that you are able to enjoy the various bonuses activated during this time period! The event time is fixed and will not change depending on when you log in. We highly recommend purchasing a ticket in advance in order to enjoy the Special Research to the fullest.

Players with tickets will still be able to access the Special Research after the event is over as long as they sign in during the event time period (November 2, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in your local time zone) to collect the Special Research. After the event is over, if you have already received the Special Research but have not completed it, the Special Research will change to be less reliant upon the Pokémon encounters and raids available globally during the weekend of the event. There will be no change to the rewards, and there is no time limit to complete it, but the Special Research must have been collected during the event time period.

For the optimal gameplay experience, we recommend completing as much of the Special Research as you can during the allotted event time period. Gather fellow Trainers and be prepared to take on a lot of Raid Battles in order to complete the Special Research!

What happens if the time zone you play in on the day is different to the one you bought the ticket in? E.g., if I buy the ticket while in Japan and then play on the event day in Seattle, will the event automatically be matched to Seattle time?

The event is dependent upon where you play rather than when you buy the ticket. As such, the event will activate based on the time zone you are in on the day of play (Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m.).

Can I receive a refund for the ticket I purchased before the start of the event?

The ticket to this Special Research story event is nonrefundable.*

*Subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service.<

I bought a ticket but couldn’t attend the event. Can I receive a refund or enjoy the event bonuses at a later time?

The ticket grants you access to in-game bonuses during the announced ticketed-event time period (November 2, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in your local time zone), and you must log in within the event time to access the Special Research. You will not be able to use the ticket to enjoy the bonuses at a different time.

After the event is over, if you have already received the Special Research but have not completed it, there will be no change to the rewards and no time limit to complete it. However, the 10 additional no-cost Raid Passes are tied to the event time period and are no longer accessible after the event time period. The ticket to this Special Research story event is nonrefundable.*

*Subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service.

I don’t want to buy a ticket. Will I still receive bonuses during the event time period?

Even without a ticket, players can experience encountering a unique combination of Pokémon in raids, in the wild, and in Eggs from Friday, November 1, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, November 4, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. PDT. During this time, Regirock, Regice, and Registeel will be available to encounter in five-star raids.
