For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is honored to feature the art of the talented Robin, also known as xkofiisamurai. This amazing artist participated in the three generations of Pokédex Ilustrada, organized by Ilustradoras Unidas.
“For me, as for many artists, Art is a way to express what I feel. It allows me to be able to capture on a canvas what I can’t say with words,” he shared with the Pokémon Blog Team. “I read somewhere that Art is the ‘expression of the soul’ or something like that, and it made a lot of sense to me. And I see it more represented in my original drawings than my fanart, but I do love to draw a little bit of everything.”
Our featured artist has known about Pokémon since he was a kid because of his friends. And also, his brother (“he’s a gamer at heart’‘) who has always kept him close to the world of video games.
“For me, Pokémon is a nostalgic franchise. It reminds me of my childhood, and although I’ve never been the biggest fan, it’s a franchise that has given me good moments.”
Robin never thought he would be able to collaborate with so many artists as he did with the project helmed by Ilustradoras Unidas: “Having the opportunity to participate with my Art in such a wonderful project like Pokédex Ilustrada is something that my childhood self would have never imagined.”
He had a hard time choosing his favorite Pokémon: “I have several (favorite Pokémon), but my favorite regions will always be Sinnoh and Unova (so my favorite Pokémon are from these regions). My favorite from Sinnoh is definitely Luxray, and Infernape is a close second. From Unova, I have to pick Excadrill. My top three are Excadrill, Emboar, and Haxorus.”
