For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is beyond delighted to feature the extraordinary art of the incredible Sebastián Salgado (salgado.design). He participated in the fourth and the fifth generations of Pokédex Ilustrada and the project celebrating the “First Anniversary of FanArt Friday” called “Pokémon Fan: Dibuja Tu Equipo Soñado,” both organized by the talented team of Ilustradoras Unidas.
Art is a fundamental part of Sebastián’s life.
“Since childhood, I’ve always been connected to music and drawing; they bring me fulfillment and happiness. It’s wonderful to share a part of myself with others and make them feel something, even if small, through my art.”
“Pokémon has influenced my life since I was a child,” he shared. “From the moment I watched the first season of the Anime Series, I was mind-blown. I wanted to be old enough to travel like Ash and live an adventure like him. Since then, the franchise has always been present in my life through its games, cards, and figures.”
For Sebastián, Pokémon is a multigenerational franchise because it allows him to share his love for the Pokémon world with his 5-year-old daughter.
“The beautiful aspect of combining something you love with art is that there are no limits,” he explained. “You can give free rein to your imagination. You can be the main character of your stories in the Pokémon world, and that’s something I deeply love. I’ve always sketched myself and my Pokémon team, but never took it further. And ‘Pokémon Fan: Dibuja Tu Equipo Soñado’ inspired me to finally capture it in an illustration. Illustrating Pokémon is something I will never stop doing.”
“Everyone who knows me is aware of how much of a fan I am of Charizard and his evolutionary line. Ever since I saw him on the brink of death in the rain, I promised that I would never leave Charmander alone,” he said. “Because of that, I always choose Fire-type Pokémon as my starter in every game. My card decks always include a Charizard, no matter how competitive the deck is. Charizard will always be my faithful Pokémon companion.”
