Pokemon GO details have been revealed

A mobile game that should be on every Pokemon fan’s radar this year is Pokemon GO. The upcoming smartphone game will use actual locations to encourage players to search in the real world to discover Pokemon. In Pokemon GO, you’ll be tasked with trying to capture as many Pokemon as you can by exploring cities and towns around where you live and even around the globe. Your smartphone will vibrate as you move around to let you know you’re near a Pokemon.

Once you’ve encountered a Pokemon, you’ll be able to take aim on your phone’s touch screen and throw a Poké Ball to attempt to catch it. The Pokemon might run away, so stay alert when you try to catch it. Some wild Pokemon will appear only in certain places. For example, some Water-type Pokemon can only be found near lakes and oceans.

In Pokemon fashion, you will gain levels as a Trainer and you’ll be able to catch more powerful Pokemon at higher levels. You’ll also be given access to more powerful items, such as Great Balls, which give you a better chance at catching Pokemon. There will also be PokéStops located at places such as public art installations, historical markers and monuments – where you can collect more Poké Balls and other items.

At a certain point in the game, players will be asked to join one of three teams. Once you join a team, you’ll gain the ability to assign Pokemon you’ve caught to empty Gym locations or to a location where a team member has placed one of his or her Pokemon. You can place only one Pokemon at a particular Gym, so every player is encouraged to work with others on the team to build up a strong defense. Like PokéStops, Gyms can be found at real locations in the world.

Pokémon GO will be available later this year as a free download on the App Store and Google Play for iOS and Android devices, respectively. In-app purchases will be offered as well. For more info, head over to the official Pokemon website!
