There are three teams in Pokemon GO – Instinct, Valor and Mystic – each of which is represented by a distinctive leader. The team you chose to go with will be more important as time goes on, according to Niantic CEO John Hanke. Every team is associated with one of the three Legendary birds – Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno – and this might determine which of them players will be able to catch down the line. “They’re kinda aligned with the teams, and we might have something to announce about the teams soon,” Hanke told Business Insider. In addition, leaders will eventually be giving advice to their respective teams in the near future.
