It appears that a select number of Pokemon GO players mistakenly received Legendary Pokemon, including Articuno, over the past couple of weeks. However, it turns out that these distributions were given out in error – so Niantic has decided to take them back.
“A few of our Legendary Pokémon had erroneously been granted to some Trainers,” the developer said. “Thanks to the help of several of our Trainers, we were able to locate them and bring them home safely.”
