Although there are several Pokemon games available on home consoles, all core entries in the series were developed solely for handhelds. This is because a lot of essential features – such as trading and battling – encourage players to meet others in real life. According to Game Freak‘s Junichi Masuda, this is something that’s likely not going to change. “When coming up with the idea of Pokemon, what we really wanted to create was something where people could get together and have fun trading, battling, showing off their Pokemon collection, and just talking about their own adventures with the game,” Masuda said. “Handheld consoles and devices offer us the best way to achieve this vision.”
