The Pokemon Company has officially described Detective Pikachu as a “groundbreaking live-action film.” The upcoming Pokemon movie will follow the story of Detective Pikachu, a new character in the Pokemon universe. It will be directed by Rob Letterman and Universal Pictures will release it outside Japan. The Pokémon Company’s longtime movie collaborator, Toho, will handle distribution of the film franchise in Japan – as it did in its partnership with Legendary on its iconic monster reboot for Godzilla. More news about Detective Pikachu will be revealed at a later date.
