If you played Pokémon Sun and Moon, you should be familiar with Professor Kukui by now. One of his most striking features is related to how he doesn’t normally wear a shirt, even when he visits someone else’s house. According to developer Game Freak, the decision to make him shirtless is simply attributed to the warm weather of the Alola region. “I don’t think we have the intention of making [the professors] cooler or prettier,” explains game director Shigeru Ohmori. “It’s the temperature.”

I expected this sorta answer tbh, but it makes it seem as if Kukui is the only human who can’t handle the heat in Alola

Or maybe every other resident of Alola is a never nude and would rather sweat it out than show some skin. Maybe Kukui is actually just the punk rock rebel of the islands 😛
