Did you know that Pokémon GO initially began as an April Fool’s joke before becoming a global phenomenon? You may recall that in 2014, Google unveiled the “Pokémon Challenge” for Google Maps, which allowed users to find and capture certain Pokémon within the application. This feature eventually branched out to Pokémon GO developer Niantic, which wanted to keep it running by creating a location-based game that revolved around catching Pokémon in the real world.
