Pikachu and Hello Kitty have been appointed by Japanese foreign minister Tarō Kōno. The two prominent entertainment icons are officially serving as ambassadors to promote the city of Osaka, Japan, for Expo 2025 – which currently has three other bids: Baku, Azerbaijan; Paris, France; and Yekaterinburg, Russia. The host of the Expo 2025 is scheduled to be announced in November 2018.
