Nintendo’s share of the gaming market jumps 9 percent to 22 percent in 2017 thanks to games like Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has been on a turnaround path since 2016, pushing into mobile and launching the Nintendo Switch console with some of its most well-known franchises. Nintendo’s share of the gaming market jumped nine percent to 22 percent in 2017, thanks to popular games like Pokkén Tournament DX, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. “The hybrid nature of Nintendo’s Switch has allowed it to flex to the buying needs of consumers in different regions, thus making it a globally attractive and relevant product,” Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games research at IHS, said in the report. “Nintendo’s content release slate was also exceptional in 2017, acting as the catalyst for rapid adoption of the console.” To read more of this story, click here.
