Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution being directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonori Sakakibara, screenplay is by Takeshi Shudo

The Pokémon Company has revealed that next year’s Pokémon anime movie – officially titled Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution – will premiere in Japan on July 12, 2019. The film was initially announced via a teaser that was shown at the end of Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us. The upcoming movie is being directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and Motonori Sakakibara, while the screenplay is by Takeshi Shudo. Kunhiko Yuyama was the director of the first 20 Pokémon movies and was a consultant on Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us and Pokémon Detective Pikachu. He also served as executive director of the anime for the last 22 years. Meanwhile, Motonori Sakakibara worked on Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within and Rudolf the Black Cat. Takeshi Shudo did the screenplays for the first three Pokémon movies, the Mewtwo Returns special and scripted 18 episodes of the anime.
