Nintendo has slashed the sales forecast for Nintendo 3DS from 4 million to 2.6 million from April 2018 to March 2019. This suggests that the handheld console is finally nearing the end of its lifecycle. The following comes from video games analyst Daniel Ahmad:
Big story during the holiday quarter for Nintendo was the Switch itself, accounting for 90% of overall revenue. 3DS is now very much at the end of its lifecycle. It’s also worth noting how small Nintendo’s smartphone game business is right now, although it is high margin.

Ironically, in the Wii U’s next to last year it sold over 3 million, and 3DS clearly in its next to last is going to fall short of that. Irony!
