Game Freak employee tests positive for COVID-19 in Japan

Pokémon developer Game Freak has announced that an employee working at its Setagaya, Tokyo, office has tested positive for COVID-19. Read on below for a translation of the developer’s statement on the matter:

About the new coronavirus infection of our employees

On April 22, 2020 (Wednesday), it was confirmed that one employee working at our company (Setagaya-ku, Tokyo) had a positive reaction to the new coronavirus infection. Currently, the employee is admitted to a medical facility under the guidance of the competent public health center and a doctor.

Since the end of January, we have reviewed face-to-face meetings, banned overseas travel, recommended a staggered commute, and encouraged employees to wash their hands, gargle, and wear a mask to prevent infections. Furthermore, from Wednesday, April 1, all employees are working from home, in principle.

Since the relevant employee has not been in the office since April 2 (Thursday), the competent insurance office has instructed that the other employees do not fall under the category of rich contacts and that it is not necessary to take measures such as temporarily closing the office. I am.
Going forward, we will continue to take swift action based on government policy, with the highest priority being to prevent the spread of infection inside and outside the company and to ensure the safety and health of our customers, business partners, employees and their families.
