Nintendo has put together the following article about how you can set up 2-step verification for a Nintendo Account:
Boost your Nintendo Account security with 2-Step Verification
It never hurts to be extra careful. If you want to supercharge the security of your Nintendo Account, you may want to turn on 2-Step Verification.
Sounds great! What’s a Nintendo Account?
Your Nintendo Account is an account that is required to use certain services from Nintendo, such as online services (including Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch™ system), game purchases from Nintendo.com, and the My Nintendo program.
So…what is 2-Step Verification?
With this security feature, signing in to your Nintendo Account will now involve two steps: You’ll use your password as normal, and you’ll be asked to enter a code displayed from an app on your smart device.
We know it’s adding an extra step, but this process will enhance the security of your account and may prevent unauthorized access.
Pro tip: In addition to using this feature, we also recommend not using the same password for your different accounts. Safety first!
How do I turn on 2-Step Verification?
- First, go to accounts.nintendo.com and sign into your Nintendo Account.
- Select Sign-in and security settings.
- Scroll down to 2-Step Verification and click Edit.
- Please follow the on-screen directions from there.
Keep in mind that 2-Step Verification is only available for general accounts (ages 13 and over). Child and supervised account “Sign-in and security settings” can be managed by the parent/guardian under the “Family group” section.
