Hoopa Debuts during Pokémon GO’s Season of Mischief

Enjoy new Special Research, discover different Pokémon in the wild, and more during a new Season of fun.

The Season of Discovery has come to an end, and so begins a new era of mystery, wonder, and mischief! From Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. local time, the Season of Mischief will offer Trainers tons of opportunities to catch Pokémon, complete research, and take part in exciting events. The Mythical Psychic- and Ghost-type Pokémon Hoopa will also make its Pokémon GO debut, and Trainers can encounter it by completing a new Special Research story, Misunderstood Mischief.

The hoopla will kick into high gear with a special event commemorating Hoopa’s arrival on Sunday, September 5, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Throughout the day, Trainers can complete a Collection Challenge, earn twice the Candy for transferring Pokémon, obtain an item bundle at no cost from the in-game shop, and complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks to receive Rare Candy and Poké Balls.

Incense activated during this magical event will attract different types of Pokémon during each hour. Below is a breakdown of which types of Pokémon will be attracted when.

  • 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.: Psychic-type Pokémon will be attracted
  • 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.: Ghost-type Pokémon and Dark-type Pokémon will be attracted
  • 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Psychic-type Pokémon will be attracted
  • 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.: Ghost-type Pokémon and Dark-type Pokémon will be attracted

  • 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Ghost-type Pokémon and Dark-type Pokémon will be attracted

During Psychic-type hours, Pokémon like Exeggcute, Jynx, Natu, Girafarig, Spoink, Beldum, and Munna will be appearing. If you’re very lucky, you might even encounter a Galarian Ponyta or an Espeon! Pokémon appearing during Ghost- and Dark-type hours will include Alolan Rattata, Poochyena, Sableye, Carvanha, Duskull, Drifloon, and Purrloin. Lucky Trainers might even find a Scraggy or a Litwick!

As the Season changes, different Pokémon will begin appearing in the wild, including some that will appear only in specific landscapes and hemispheres. Trainers in cities and other urban environments can expect to encounter Pokémon such as Shuppet, Trubbish, and Gothita. Teddiursa, Karrablast, Shelmet, and others will soon be found frolicking through forests. In mountainous landscapes, you can expect to see an abundance of Geodude, Rhyhorn, Slugma, and others. Wander near water and you may soon find Krabby, Horsea, Mantine, and other Water-type Pokémon.

Trainers in the northern hemisphere can expect to encounter Jigglypuff, Paras, Slowpoke, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Larvitar, Bidoof, Autumn Form Deerling, and Stunfisk. Trainers in the southern hemisphere will soon see Clefairy, Chansey, Dratini, Roselia, Combee, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Tympole, and Spring Form Deerling appearing in the wild.

Making the most of this mischievous season, Ditto will be appearing disguised as several different Pokémon, such as Gastly, Drowzee, Teddiursa, Remoraid, Gulpin, Numel, Stunky, Dwebble, and Foongus.

The Season of Mischief also offers egg-cellent opportunities to earn and hatch Eggs. Certain Pokémon will hatch more frequently from certain Eggs.

  • Nidoran♀, Nidoran♂, Barboach, Drifloon, and more will be hatching from 2 km Eggs.
  • Seel, Pineco, Sableye, Chingling, and more will be hatching from 5 km Eggs.

  • Riolu, Deino, Noibat, and more will be hatching from 10 km Eggs earned from Adventure Sync.

But that’s not all. Mega-Evolved Pokémon will make mega mischief in the coming months: a different Mega-Evolved Pokémon will receive a CP boost during each month of the Season! In September, Mega Slowbro will get a CP boost. In October, Mega Gengar will enjoy a CP boost. And finally, in November, Mega Houndoom will benefit from a CP boost.

Enjoy making magical mischief, Trainers!
