The PokéBaking Special: Let’s Meet The Incredible Miscellaneousmao.

Oh, PokéBaking! The beautiful and ever-so-difficult task of baking delicious sweets in the form of your favorite Pokémon.

The Pokémon Blog Team was fortunate enough to converse with an expert in this Culinary Art, the extraordinary confectioner Gloria also known as Miscellaneousmao.

The Majestic Dragonair

Gloria considers baking as a creative outlet that’s very important to her. “There are endless ways to create and different mediums out there, but figuring out how to make and create Pokémon designs with food is a really thought-provoking challenge that I love to tackle,” she shared.

The cutest thing ever.

“Pokémon was a big part of my childhood, it was the first video game I really played, and my love for Pokémon has only grown over the years. I’ve collected a fair amount of merchandise, considering my tiny apartment. I’ve played as many of the (Pokémon) main games as I could, and my husband and I snuck in subtle Pokémon references at our wedding.”

The Gratitude Pokémon

When asked about the Pokémon references used on her wedding, Gloria said: “I dressed up substitute dolls with a makeshift veil and tie for our engagement photos and the welcome table; we picked music from Braxton Burks’ Pokémon Reorchestrated for our wedding procession (I walked down to Pallet Town); and as part of our wedding vows, my husband promised that he’ll always get the alternate Pokémon game so I can trade with him.”

The loveliest wedding procession ever!👰🤵

“I love that I have a hobby where I can celebrate two of my biggest passions, it brings me so much happiness and fulfillment, and hopefully, it brings some joy to others too. I could (and have) spent hours brainstorming ideas just for fun,” the amazing confectioner mentioned.

Poliwag Roll Cake

Sometimes, Gloria feels torn between eating or contemplating her beautiful and cute culinary creations, especially when it’s a big project (“such as my Dragonair and Milotic cake”) in which she has spent so much time trying to make it as nice as possible. “I admittedly have to steel myself before cutting into something like that, but I also think it’s funny to see my creations getting eaten (because) that’s why I ultimately made them for, after all. And, of course, the taste is rewarding as well!”

MINDBLOWING

She revealed that her favorite thing to make depends on her mood and even the weather. “For example, chocolate is much harder to handle when it’s hot and humid… Overall though, I mostly got started with cake pops and truffles, so those will always have a soft spot in my heart, and making simple lunchbox cakes is fun and satisfying as well.”

Speaking of her mood, she mentioned it’s also her deciding factor for what she does while baking: She can choose to watch videos on Youtube or listen to music. “I can range from listening to the quiet and meditative forest sounds to Pokémon lo-fi music from artists like GlitchxCity to fast-paced anime music,” she added.

Gloria said she has “different favorites (Pokémon) depending on the situation,” but her overall favorite is Jolteon. “I fell in love with it after watching the Pokémon episode where a Jolteon was doing its best to herd Magnemite. I think it’s super cute, and my in-game team doesn’t feel the same without it.”

Gloria’s favorite Pokémon: Jolteon.

“I’d recommend aspiring bakers start with something simple that seems achievable and then work your way up from there. There are so many different types of sweets, experiment and see what you most enjoy making (and eating!). For myself, I used box cake mixes to gain familiarity and confidence when I first started, and then branched out to easy-looking recipes that seemed to have solid reviews online. Decorating pre-made cakes or cookies is another way to practice without needing to turn on the oven. But honestly, there’s no one way to start, and remember no one starts off perfect. The important part is to keep practicing and learning as you go!”
