Niantic has resolved the issue where Pokémon GO players trying to sign in to Pokémon GO saw a ‘failed to authenticate’ or a maintenance message, this was due to an issue with McAfee software blocking Pokémon GO from accessing Wi-Fi network data

Trainers see an error message when trying to sign in to Pokémon GO

Issue Description: Trainers trying to sign in to Pokémon GO see a ‘failed to authenticate’ or a maintenance message. This was due to an issue with Trainers who use McAfee software blocking Pokémon GO from accessing Wi-Fi network data. We have worked with McAfee to resolve the issue.
