For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is delighted to display the art of Cristóbal Muñoz, also known as crismoonster_art. This extraordinary artist and developer participated in Pokédex Ilustrada, the phenomenal project organized by Ilustradoras Unidas.
For Cristóbal, Art is a form of self-expression.
It’s his way of creating and sharing his own ideas with the world.
“There’s nothing that suits me better than showing what I’m thinking than drawing,” he shared.
“Pokémon is one of the most important franchises in my life,” he revealed. “Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved the creatures and the animals. When I discovered the series in ’98, it felt like it was made just for me and my interests. I’ve followed the games almost without fail. And there’s no Pokémon design that I don’t like. I’m always keen to see what new creatures they will release next. My main focus and the thing I like the most about it are the games, but I respect the other aspects of the franchise to a great extent.“
Drawing Pokémon is something that feels natural to Cristóbal.
“I can draw most of them from memory (not every detail, but I can understand the basics of who I’m drawing). It’s a pleasure for me to share it with people through social media.”
Our featured artist told us he has always had a difficult time choosing a favorite Pokémon because there are so many, and it’s hard for him to define something as his favorite.
“As a kid, I liked Primeape. He’s so simple, and I admire that. But there has always been a battle in my mind about choosing Crobat, Scyther, Breelom, and Scrafty because I like Pokémon that look tough but with some ridiculousness if you at them carefully.”
