For this edition of FanArt Friday, we are excited to showcase the art of the incredible Francisca, also known as Sheiklei. This talented artist is a longtime collaborator of Ilustradoras Unidas and one of the organizers of Pokédex Ilustrada.
For Francisca, Art is essential to her life: “Since I was little, I’ve always drawn. It allows me to express myself freely. It has also helped me a lot when I’m sad or stressed. Art is also good therapy that helps me to feel better.”
Our featured artist explained that she wasn’t a big fan of the franchise when she was a child but was aware of it. She has always been drawn to the Pokémon with cute designs.
“When I got older, I had the opportunity to play the games. That helped me to get into this magical world. Now, whenever a game comes out, I want to own it. Therefore, I can start a new brand adventure and battle against different Gym Leaders. I also feel it’s an achievement when you are in a challenging battle that costs you a lot, and you succeed in it,” she added. “The other thing I appreciate about Pokémon is that it has helped me to connect and to be able to interact with other artists with similar tastes as me.”
Drawing Pokémon has helped Francisca push her boundaries and grow as an artist. It’s allowed her to practice animal anatomy.
“Being able to participate more directly (in the creation of Pokemon FanArt) with Pokédex Ilustrada has helped me discover other artists, and I can learn a lot from them in terms of coloring or composition. It generates a virtuous circle of mutual learning,” she mentioned.
She also enjoys drawing her favorite Pokémon in new situations.
Speaking of her favorite Pokémon, she revealed that her favorite Pokémon are Eevee, its evolutions, and Ditto.
“I find Eevee adorable and I really like the creativity behind its evolutions. In most of the games I’ve played, I’ve always included at least one of them as part of my main team. Additionally, I like Ditto because it makes me laugh that it can transform into any Pokémon while retaining the same face,” she concluded.
