For this edition of Fan Art Friday, the Pokémon Blog is honored to display the magnificent artworks of the talented Joseph Maureira (joemaureirart).
For Joseph, art is a never-ending story—a journey that accompanies him through both the good and bad times.
“Art makes me feel safe and often challenges me to improve my skills,” he described. “It means a deep connection with my best friends, love, and especially with my son (we draw a lot of Pokémon together every day).”
Joseph spent a lot of time drawing digitally, but he’s currently exploring new techniques, learning watercolor, charcoal, and acrylic.
“I’m a joyful adventurer in this eternal journey,” he said.
“Pokémon was an essential part of my childhood, youth, and now my adulthood,” he shared with the Pokémon Blog Team. “The Pokémon anime series, mixed with the beautiful illustrations of the TCG cards and the addictive games of the franchise, meant countless hours of pure entertainment and discovery.”
Pokémon has become a special bonding experience for Joseph and his son.
“I love watching the new seasons of the Pokémon anime with him, and we have so much fun discussing it. He’s learning about the weaknesses using the Pokémon Type Chart, and I plan to teach him how to play with the TCG cards once he’s ready.”
Joseph believes there is something truly magical about bringing the Pokémon world into reality and drawing these incredible creatures in his own city, with the beautiful landscapes he grew up in and as part of his daily life.
“Imagining how they can interact and relate to each other, experiencing very human emotions in different situations and settings, makes you want to keep drawing them,” he said. “I started an art project with a close friend called ‘Dexiclopedia.’ In it, we take on the role of researchers documenting Pokémon by drawing them all over Chile. And amazing things have come out of it.”
Electivire is Joseph’s favorite Pokémon because of his unique design: “He’s like this massive electric orangutan that could break you in two if you make him angry. Plus, there’s a stunning illustration by TOKIYA in the trading card game that made me fall in love with him. Also, I’ve always had a strong preference for Electric-type Pokémon.”
