For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is honored to showcase the incredible illustrations of Bakaneko (bakakuroneko23). This talented artist has participated in multiple Pokémon-related projects, including the fifth and sixth generations of Pokédex Ilustrada and “Pokémon Fan: Dibuja Tu Equipo Soñado” (which commemorated the “First Anniversary of FanArt Friday”), organized by our dear friends from Ilustradoras Unidas.
Art is something that BK enjoys very much.
“Since I was a child, I’ve admired people with the ability to create art in any form, especially the illustrators,” he shared. “Throughout my life, I’ve been lucky to always have people around me who have motivated me in that sense. Currently, my partner is the one who has pushed me the most to partake in the world of illustration again. For a long time, I thought I wasn’t good enough, until she taught me that we all create art differently and that what I should focus on is learning more and refining my abilities. These days, I’m dedicated to improving my skills so I can create more and increase my social media presence.”
BK fell in love with the Pokémon franchise at first sight. It has accompanied him since childhood, and it’s the world where he has always wanted to live.
“I always got consoles (like the Game Boy) with my cousins so I could play and keep learning more about the Pokémon world. I think the world that Game Freak has created and the number of followers it has reached is nothing short of admirable. One of my dreams is to be part of that world someday,” he said.
According to our artist, creating Pokémon is not something everyone can enjoy due to a lack of time or other life-related issues.
“I’m grateful to have the opportunity and ability to illustrate my favorite Pokémon. I’m currently participating in a project called PokéCardChallenge, which aims to showcase the art of various artists based on Pokémon and create proxies inspired by them. So, please stay tuned and check out the project—I find it very promising. There’s already enough material for the rest of the year, and even more exciting things to come.”
It’s very hard for BK to pick his favorite Pokémon, but his top choice is Charizard: “I love his design and the personality he had in the anime series—so much so that he became my first tattoo.”
He also has several other favorites, but he wanted to highlight Snorlax because he’s the Pokémon he identifies with the most.
“Snorlax is like a cat that loves to sleep and eat, but I think he gives it his all when he has to fight or do something he likes (like eating),” he concluded.
