FanArt Friday: Reshaping Emotions and Burning Through Life

For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is beyond delighted to display the stunning art of a very talented Chilean illustrator named Lorena, also known by her pseudonym Canleey. She has participated in the first, second, third, and fourth generations of the Ilustradoras Unidas-led project called Pokédex Ilustrada.

For Lore, art is a vehicle for emotional expression because it helps her to navigate both positive and negative emotions and experiences.

“Art has been in my life since I was a little girl, and it’s still an important part of my life today. It gives me peace of mind and helps me to overcome challenges when I feel very sad. It has become a way to translate and communicate what distresses me. Not only that, but it reshapes those emotions and turns them into something more pleasant. I’ve found myself creating things from my sadness that turned out to be extremely beautiful,” she revealed to the Pokémon Blog Team.

This is the way Misty saw Tentacruel, and this is how everyone should look at him!🫧 Lore was able to capture his beauty!🥹

Besides art, there is another constant that has accompanied Lore throughout her life and provided her with great comfort: Pokémon.

“I’ve always been a fan of fantastic creatures, so Pokémon helped me feed that passion. I spent days and days playing Pokémon Fire Red, and I had a great time. I think that’s what Pokémon is truly about. I have fond childhood memories of it. And I still play the games to this day.”

She has always had a great time creating Pokémon art, so when she recently learned about Pokédex Ilustrada, she was thrilled about the idea: “I think I have always been able to draw any Pokémon I wanted, but being part of a group that shares the same interest made the whole experience more fulfilling and entertaining.”

What an incredible illustration of an incredible Pokémon!💧 #CroconawRules!🩵

Lore holds a Pokémon evolution line very dear to her heart because her favorite Pokémon was originally Charmander, but it later changed to Charizard.

“I like Charizard’s personality a lot. I feel he represents the concepts of ‘development’ and ‘growth’ quite well—and not always in a positive light. Charmander is a loyal Pokémon, and even though he looks soft, he still has strong ideals. Charmeleon is the angsty teenager of the bunch, so as I was growing up and looking at him, it clicked with me in that way. And, in the end, we have Charizard with his temperament and pride. He captivated me. I think that even if he was difficult to get along with, he had his hidden reasons. It was due to his impulsive nature and fiery personality (and like him, I burned a lot too). But having those close to him care so deeply made him burn for them and fueled his life in that metaphor. I dig that,” she concluded.

Sceptile is such a majestic Pokémon!🌱This drawing is beyond perfection!🌿
