For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is honored to showcase the beautiful artworks of Kuiu_Art. This talented Colombian artist has participated in multiple generations of Pokédex Ilustrada, the extraordinary project organized by Ilustradoras Unidas.
For Kuiu, art is a way to connect with the things he enjoys.
“Since I was introduced to drawing and sculpture back in school, the first thing I thought was to create a physical representation of the characters I liked to play with and collect. Later on, as I grew up and studied Plastic Arts, I came to understand that art has more possibilities and dimensions that can be explored more deeply. Even so, I prefer to keep the simple relationship I had with art as a child, where I think of an idea or something I’d like to draw and just do it without further ado.“
He has a longstanding relationship with the franchise, and he recognizes how influential it has been for him.
“Like many people, I got to know Pokémon during my childhood, thanks to the anime series and video games. The latter had a greater influence on me because it gave me the possibility to explore that world, and that concept has always fascinated me the most. Another thing I like about the franchise is that, even with time, it hasn’t lost its ability to create simple plots that involve many emotions and interesting situations, allowing you to expand your own world even more,” he explained.
Creating Pokémon art has always been a very enjoyable activity for him. It allows him to reconnect with the child he once was and with the nostalgic feeling that many of us have experienced in recent years, no matter the generation to which we belong.
“I love participating in Pokédex Ilustrada,” Kuiu told the Pokémon Blog Team. “I enjoy this project so much because it not only gives me the chance to express visually what I like about the franchise, but it also allows me to see all the love that other people have for it.”
It’s nearly impossible for our artist to choose a single Pokémon as his favorite: “I’ve liked several of them because of their designs or because they’ve given me so many memories when I played with them in the video games. Appearance-wise, I like Crobat, Magnezone, and Banette, along with their Mega Evolutions. As for the Pokémon I enjoyed playing with, I have to choose Dialga, Palkia, Arceus, and Giratina since I remember the release of the fourth generation and how they captivated me—they were awesome and very cool.”
