Forbes: Don’t expect Pokemon GO on Nintendo Switch

It might be safe to assume that Pokemon GO is not coming to the recently-revealed Nintendo Switch. At least, that’s according to Forbes, which says that multiple factors suggest that Niantic‘s popular mobile game would not be a good fit for Nintendo’s upcoming gaming system. Read on below for some of the publication’s reasons to not expect Pokemon GO on Nintendo Switch:

First, while it seems likely that the mobile form of the Switch will have access to Wi-Fi, access to cellular networks seems like a stretch, meaning that it would be ill-suited for a game that needs constant GPS access like Pokémon GO.

Second, while this isn’t confirmed, early indications seem to point to the fact that the screen component of the Switch may not be a touchscreen, or have any internal gyro capabilities, or have an external camera, rendering many aspects of Pokémon GO moot. While the control system and UI could be redesigned to accommodate more traditional controls, this seems unlikely.

Third, it seems incredibly likely that Pokémon will come to the Switch, especially if it effectively replaces Nintendo’s current line of handhelds. But the Pokémon games we might see on the Switch would be more of the Sun/Moon variety rather than a mobile phone game like Pokémon GO. Those games don’t rely on touch input, GPS, gyroscopes or anything else phones take for granted, and the system would be far better suited for that type of game.
