As part of its Pokémon Day 2017 celebration, The Pokémon Company recently conducted a poll to find out which starter from the Hoenn region had the most popularity. About 37 percent of a total of 52,708 votes said they picked Mudkip when starting their journey through Hoenn. Meanwhile, Torchic was chosen by 34 percent of voters and the remaining 29 percent decided to go with Treecko. In the Johto region, Cyndaquil was the most popular among players. Similarly, Charmander was favored over the other two in Kanto.

Looks like Ash didn’t go with the popular vote 😉 a lot of it has to do with Swampert, the final form of Mudkip. Pokémon fans love how it’s a Water AND Ground type.
