The Pokémon GO Battle Showdown was underway until 1 p.m. (PDT) today, May 14, so time has run out for you to participate in it! As part of this in-game event, Fighting-type Pokémon such as Mankey, Machop, Makuhita and Meditite were appearing in the wild more frequently, and players got to watch out for hard-to-find Tyrogue hatching from Eggs more often. You also received double the XP for taking on Gyms and raids. When you interacted with a Gym, you also got double the XP toward earning a Badge as you usually earn. When you spun the Photo Disc in a Gym, you received more items than usual. Finally, when you’re successful in a raid, you were guaranteed to receive a Rare Candy and whether you won or lost, you earned 3,000 Stardust – six times the usual amount.
In addition, Shiny Makuhita and Shiny Meditite can now be found and caught in Pokémon GO. These two rare Pokémon evolve into Shiny Hariyama and Shiny Medicham, respectively. Niantic wants players to express their team pride, so be sure to let the developer know how you’re representing your Pokémon GO Team Leader via social media. The developer has shared a picture of its staff at its main office in San Francisco, California, which consists mainly of Team Valor members. As part of this initiative, Niantic has also released standalone Battle Showdown artwork for Team Instinct leader Spark, the Legendary Zapdos, Team Valor leader Candela and Team Mystic leader Blanche.
