Set to launch on December 7 for Nintendo Switch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will include every single fighter ever featured in the series’ nearly two-decade run, making it one of the biggest crossover events in gaming history. Fans can enjoy returning favorites like Ice Climbers and Pokémon Trainer, as well as newly announced fighters like Ridley from the Metroid series and Inkling from the Splatoon series. The game includes more than 83 stages and a new option to allow players to toggle stage hazards on or off. However, not all past stages will be featured:
- We have some new Smash information for you all. Famitsu has done a writeup on a press-only live demo/Q&A session that happened at E3. The presenters were Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen from Nintendo Treehouse. Some key information regarding stages in Smash was revealed here. (1)
- The biggest reveal is that not every stage will be returning like every character will be.
- “Not all past stages are going to be in the game but a whole lot of them will.” (2)
- There was another piece of info around the games balancing. Once again the game will be balanced by Sakurai. They don’t clarify if it will all be him like it was in Brawl and Melee or if Namco Bandai will be assisting for this as well like with Smash For (3)
- We do want to stress that this interview was not with Sakurai himself but with Bill and Nate from Nintendo Treehouse. They will be deeply familiar with the games development but they are not Sakurai so please do not claim he said this (4)
- One final note is that the questions and answers were likely edited by Famitsu for brevity and translated from English to Japanese, which introduces the potential for misunderstandings.
