A total of 1,500 Pikachu are taking over Yokohama’s streets for the annual Pikachu Outbreak festival. For its fifth anniversary this year, the theme is “Science is Amazing,” which marks the debut of the first-ever Eevee Outbreak. Held from August 10 to 16, Pikachu Outbreak 2018 includes a night parade filled with the official Pokémon mascots in flashy light-up costumes. In addition, there is a night version of the afternoon Splash Show, where Pikachu is joined by its many Pokémon friends, including Eevee.
Minatomirai’s inner harbour is setting the stage for the “Pikachu Parade on the Sea.” This show utilizes the latest digital technology to present a unique visual storytelling of a new Pokémon adventure, surrounded by Yokohama’s picturesque scenery. Pikachu and Eevee parades are on display. Water shows are also available featuring both mascots. Pikachu Outbreak: Science is Amazing is free for all fans to join. There are also merchandise for sale as well. The extensive lineup of merch includes Pikachu and Eevee plushies, headbands, T-shirts and much more.
Pokémon Synchronicity is also being featured as part of this year’s Pikachu and Eevee Outbreak events. This special presentation uses digital technology and is being held in the Minato Mirai port area from August 10 to August 16. Pokémon Synchronicity is a 30-minute show featuring a ship parade with a lot of Pikachu against a background of images floating on the sea, all of which can be viewed from the lawn space at Nippon Maru Memorial Park. The show features special lighting effects and digital technology created by Japanese companies WOW and Rhizomatiks Research.
