The Special Battle rules for Rating Battle Season 12 have been revealed by The Pokémon Company. Season 12 will run from September 3 through November 6, 2018, and runs on the original Pokémon Sun & Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, with rankings separate to each other. This ruleset is rather standard but bans all Sub-Legendary, Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. It also doesn’t allow for Mega Stones.
Battle type: Single Battle
Pokémon Restrictions: National Pokédex. Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina, Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Reshiram, Zekrom, Landorus, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde, Diancie, Hoopa, Volcanion, Type: Null, Silvally, Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, Tapu Bulu, Tapu Fini, Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Nihilego, Buzzwole, Pheromosa, Xurkitree, Celesteela, Kartana, Guzzlord, Necrozma, Magearna, Marshadow, Poipole, Naganadel, Stakataka, Blacephalon, Zeraora, and Ash-Greninja cannot be used.
Banned Items: Mega Stones
The other standard rules apply, including all set to Level 50 if above that and you choose three Pokémon out of your six, and you cannot have two Pokémon holding the same hold item. Battles have a 10-minute duration, with turns having a 60-second timer. In addition to this, on September 4, the Championship Battle ruleset will change to the VGC 2019 Sun Series rules.
