Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda attends Pokémon Center Yokohama and hugs Pikachu at closing ceremony

The Pokémon Company recently announced plans to move the major Pokémon Center location in Yokohama to Marine City, also located in Yokohama, on November 9, 2018. The updated store will be significantly larger than the original and will house a more modern ocean-style theme. The current location, which was located at Landmark Plaza, officially closed its doors on October 28, 2018. The Pokémon Company hosted a special event dedicated to the original location. Game Freak director Junichi Masuda was invited as a special guest. Masuda spoke to attendees about the history of the location. He was even spotted hugging Pikachu in what appeared to be a very emotional moment.
