Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mewtwo Guide
Super Smash Bros Ultimate has the largest roster of fighters in the series yet. There are 74 proper characters in total, with a few Echo Fighters thrown in for good measure. Mewtwo returns after having featured in both Melee and SSB4. He’s a tricky fighter to master, but can be very powerful if used correctly. Let’s take a look at how Mewtwo plays in the new game.
Mewtwo Smash Bros. Ultimate Moves Set and Final Smash
In the table below, you can find a list of all of Mewtwo’s moves in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There’s also Mewtwo’s Final Smash, called Psystrike, where Mewtwo changes into Mega Mewtwo Y.

How to Unlock Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Unlike previous Smash games, fighters are unlocked in the same way for all, rather than character-specific challenges. This means that while it can be a bit of a grind, all you need to do is play the game naturally and you’ll eventually unlock all of the characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. We’ve listed the three ways you can unlock characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate below:
- Playing the World of Light single-player mode.
- Completing Classic Mode with a character.
- Playing the ‘Challenger Approaches’ fights that appear regularly, you will need to win them.
The fastest method involves triggering the Challenger Fights by reloading the game regularly. We’ve listed the method below:
- Quit to the home screen and Restart the game.
- Create a match with a custom rule set.
- Make sure the match is 1 minute long, or 1 stock if you’d prefer.
- After finishing the match (you can win or lose) you will offered a new Challenger Fight.
- You’ll need to win the Challenger fight
- Repeat.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Mewtwo Changes
As with the rest of the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster, we’re going to be taking a look at what changes have been made to Mewtwo since its last appearance. Mewtwo was part of Super Smash Bros for Wii U, having been the first DLC character to be added. It looks like there are a number of differences here, so let’s take a look:
- Several of Mewtwo’s animations have been tweaked including Victory Pose, Idle, Up Aerial, and Disable.
- Speaking of Disable, it can now be countered and has more range in terms of vertical reach.
- Shadow Ball deals less damage but reaches full charge more quickly.
- Mewtwo is generally slower and heavier.
- Dash Attack plays out slightly differently, with Mewtwo attacking with one hand in front of the other.
- Confusion has more range.
- The visual effects around Teleport have been tweaked slightly.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate Mewtwo Alternate Outfits/Skins
Mewtwo’s variants make a return in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and they look to be identical to the ones used previously. This includes orange, blue, brown, red, yellow, green, and dark versions. Super Smash Bros Ultimate Mewtwo Final Smash
Mewtwo’s Final Smash in Ultimate is Psystrike. This is the same as last time, but there are some slight changes. The ball that Mewtwo launches is now a different color, and the animation that plays out when it hits an enemy is much more hectic. You can see it for yourself in the trailer embedded above.
