To coincide with the appointment of Geodude as ambassador of the Iwate Prefecture in Japan, The Pokémon Company and Niantic have announced a special Pokémon GO event for Iwate, Japan. Increased spawns of Geodude will be available in the area from July 1 to July 15, 2019. Geodude will also be accompanied by other Rock-type Pokémon, such as Onix, Omanyte, Kabuto, Aerodactyl and Sudowoodo in Sanriku to celebrate the recent opening of a focal railway. This event will take place from July 1 to July 20, 2019. The official announcement is as follows:
