For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is honored to display the art of the gifted Rubi Bruns. This extraordinary artist participated not only in the incredible project “Pokémon Fan: Dibuja Tu Equipo Soñado (Pokémon Fan: Draw Your Dream Team),” organized to celebrate the First Anniversary of FanArt Friday, but also in Deformemon, both projects helmed by our friends from by Ilustradoras Unidas.
For Rubi, art has different meanings: It’s a form of expressing her feelings, a way to earn money or to tell stories.
“The meaning that weighs more is that I feel free through art. I can do anything without limitations as if I have no worries and can control every aspect of what I do and feel. Art is the ability of self-control. It keeps me grounded.”
Her relationship with the franchise is new.
“I never played the Pokémon games and watched very little of the anime series,” she confessed. “Pokémon wasn’t very relevant in my life because I didn’t own a Nintendo or have cable television growing up. However, when I met and joined the Ilustradoras Unidas community, I was encouraged to discover more about it. I think Pokémon helped me challenge myself and understand why others hold it so dearly in their hearts. It was extremely important for me; I’ve always had problems with social interactions, and I learned to share things through Pokémon.”
Rubi considers making Pokémon art to be something nice and fun.
She loves adding a comedic touch to her drawings (“almost imperceptible because I have a bad sense of humor”). Learning new things about the Pokémon she draws relaxes and entertains her a lot because she tries to fit everything she reads about them into her illustrations. To sum it up, it makes her happy because it’s fun and even a respite from her daily life.
“My favorite Pokémon is Pidove,” she shared. “Its design is so simple and very similar to real pigeons. And what I like the most about this Pokémon is the simplicity of its design. Plus, it’s very affectionate, just like the pigeons we see every day on the street. It doesn’t need to be exotic to capture my attention or make me feel tenderness for it.”
