Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has received its first software update in more than a year, with Nintendo releasing Version 13.0.5 on Sept. 1, 2026 to address an issue involving invalid data in online battles. The update is required to use Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s internet features, while online play continues to require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Version 13.0.5 is available on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, and players can install it through the HOME Menu by selecting the game’s icon, pressing the + or – button, choosing Software Update and then Via the Internet. Nintendo warns that replay data from Version 9.0.0 through Version 13.0.4 may have compatibility issues after updating, while replays from Version 8.1.0 and earlier are already incompatible; players who want to preserve affected replays should convert them to videos through Vault, Replays, Replay Data and Convert to Video before installing Version 13.0.5. Save data remains usable after the update, and all players must be running the same software version to play together.

Note: There may be compatibility issues with replays from Ver. 9.0.0 to 13.0.4. Replays from Ver. 8.1.0 and earlier are not compatible. If you want to keep your replays, convert them into videos before installing the update. You can do this via Vault → Replays → Replay Data → Convert to Video.
