Nintendo has released Nintendo Switch 2 system update version 23.0.0, adding Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support in TV mode, new GameChat features, system transfer between Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and the ability to play music while creating or editing a Mii. GameChat now displays previously joined chats, allows players to enter a new chat without inviting friends and adds a screen-size option through the C Button menu. VRR can match the TV’s refresh rate to supported games for smoother video output, though an updated Nintendo Switch 2 dock is required. The update also adds Virtual Game Card settings, an online license option for software when a virtual game card cannot be ejected from another offline console and the ability to transfer data from one Nintendo Switch 2 system to another. Mii creation and editing now include music controls, allowing players to change or stop the music from the Music Settings menu. Additional changes include Brazilian Portuguese support for Text to Speech and GameChat speech-to-text, TV sound settings saved across up to eight TVs, Mii QR code sharing, Handheld Mode Boost controls in Quick Settings and combined play activity across multiple systems. Nintendo Switch 2 version 23.0.0 was released Sept. 9, 2026, and also includes general system stability improvements.
