Nintendo has released system update version 23.0.0 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch OLED Model, adding new options for managing Virtual Game Cards from the HOME Menu. Players can now review and edit which Nintendo Switch systems are permitted to use their virtual game cards and access other related settings. The update also adds a prompt allowing users to start software with an online license when a Virtual Game Card cannot be ejected from another console because that system is powered off or offline, although only the account that purchased the software can use the online license. Nintendo Switch version 23.0.0 was released Sept. 9, 2026, and also includes general system stability improvements and a security vulnerability fix.

- Added “Settings” to Virtual Game Cards from the HOME Menu.
- You can review and edit which of your systems can use virtual game cards, among other options.
- When starting software, if a virtual game card cannot be ejected from another console because it is powered off or otherwise not connected to the internet, there will be a prompt to start the software using an online license.
- Only the user who purchased the software can play it using the online license.
- General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
