The first event in Professor Willow’s Global Research Challenge has concluded in Dortmund, Germany, where the Pokémon GO Safari Zone event was held from June 30 to July 1. While there was plenty to do in the Dortmund area during this free event, such as encountering Unown and Corsola throughout Westfalenpark and Raid Battles happening around the city, Trainers worldwide were able to join in the fun. In addition to completing Field Research tasks provided by Professor Willow, Trainers all over the world were seeing increased appearances of the Grass- and Poison-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, Roselia. For the first time, players now have a chance at catching Shiny Roselia sprouting purple flowers.
Professor Willow’s Global Challenge participants on June 30 and July 1 were also be able to unlock special bonuses, including another chance to encounter the Legendary Articuno. Because all tasks were successfully completed during the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund, a special Articuno and Shiny Articuno Day event will take place on July 7. Participants will receive five free Raid Passes and Articuno will appear as a Raid Boss at Pokémon GO Gyms for three hours. Niantic has confirmed that there’s a chance it will be Shiny Articuno during this period. Pokémon GO Safari Zone Dortmund Research Tasks and rewards from July 2 to July 9 are as follows:
- Pokémon GO Safari Zone: Complete 100,000 Research Tasks – Catch XP increase
- Europe, Middle East and Africa: Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks – Raid XP increase
- The Americas: Complete 5,000,000 Research Tasks – Hatch XP increase

Three new Pokémon GO boxes were also made available to purchase via the in-game store:

- Great Box – five Incense, five Super Incubators, five Lucky Eggs and five Lure Modules for 780 PokéCoins

Professor Willow’s Global Challenge recently kicked off in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, the Americas and Greenland. Niantic encourages all players to work together with Trainers in your region to unlock the special bonuses for everyone around the world. The developer has also ran a digital tour of Dortmund as part of a Pokémon GO AR Safari on Instagram. Corsola, Unown and other Pokémon found within Westfalenpark were also available all throughout the City of Dortmund.
Pokémon GO players from the Asia-Pacific region have completed five million research tasks and unlocked the one-hour Lucky Egg global bonus, which will be available from July 2 to July 9. Due to capacity issues, Niantic encouraged fans to explore the City of Dortmund rather than visiting Westfalenpark to catch Pokémon and spin PokéStops for 2 km Eggs. The developer has also confirmed a widespread log-in issue that displays the “Failed to get game data from the server” error message when attempting to log into the game. Meanwhile, Pokémon GO Safari Zone participants in Dortmund managed to collectively complete 50,000 research tasks and have unlocked the 3× catch XP global bonus. Increased spawns of wild Roselia and Shiny Roselia were also appearing in the German Rosarium at Westfalenpark. Niantic asked players to avoid using Incense at the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund as it attempted to resolve all log-in issues. Players from Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India have finished 2.5 million research tasks and have managed to unlock the 2× Raid XP bonus for everyone.
With day two of the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund now over, Niantic has announced that a Europe-wide event will take place “later this week” for the benefit of users who may have been impacted by the event’s issues. Trainers from the Americas and Greenland have completed more than 2.5 million research tasks. Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India have managed to finish five million research tasks, which means 2× Raid XP global bonus has now been unlocked. Trainers from the Americas and Greenland have finished 5 million research tasks and unlocked the 3× Hatch XP global bonus. Trainers at the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund have worked together to unlock a 3× catch XP global bonus. Niantic has also shared official AR photos of wild Wurmple and Slakoth spotted at the Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Dortmund.
