Nintendo chooses Professor Oak, Niantic prefers Professor Willow but The Pokémon Company says “why not both?”

The Pokémon Company, Nintendo and Niantic have officially revealed the new nut head Pokémon, which mysteriously made its debut via Pokémon GO over the past weekend. Its name is Meltan – brand-new Mythical Pokémon that also happens to be a Steel type. Also known as the Hex Nut Pokémon, Meltan will appear in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. Meltan has a Ditto-shaped body, single black eye and a squiggly red tail. There’s also a confirmed Shiny version of Meltan. Meltan has a body made from liquid metal, and its shape is very fluid. It uses its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its own body. Meltan uses the metal in its body to generate electricity. It uses this electricity in two ways—as a source of energy and as an attack that can be fired from its eye. The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Ditto are still transforming into the new Hex Nut Pokémon Meltan in Pokémon GO. According to The Pokémon Company, Pokémon GO is key to meeting Meltan in Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee.

Hailing from the Kanto region, Professor Oak is one of the leading authorities in the field of Pokémon research. In Pokémon Let’s Go, he gives a Pokédex to both you and your rival – entrusting you with his dream of completing it. Professor Willow’s research consists of plenty of fieldwork – with help from Pokémon GO players around the world – designed to better understand the habitats and distribution of Pokémon. The Pokémon Company is now asking fans whether they’d rather assist Professor Oak or Professor Willow with Pokémon research. Naturally, Nintendo chooses Professor Oak, Niantic prefers Professor Willow, but The Pokémon Company is asking “why not both?”
