Nintendo recently announced that Isabelle from the Animal Crossing series is joining the roster as a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This brings the tally of unique playable characters – excluding Echo Fighters – to 68. According to the fighting game’s listing, the total number of playable characters is 71 – which means that three more are to be revealed. However, according to director Masahiro Sakurai, further character reveals and announcements will not be as frequent leading up to the game’s launch on December 7. In addition, Sakurai says development is nearing completion:
“We announced Isabelle in the Nintendo Direct,” Sakurai wrote in his Weekly Famitsu column. “… however, it would be a mistake to think that the new character announcements will keep going [at this pace] until Smash Bros. releases. We may have been a little trigger-happy so we’ll be living modestly from here on out.” While on the subject of how close the game is from going gold (meaning complete and ready to ship) Sakurai wrote “It’ll be complete in just a little longer… or so we expect!”
