The upcoming Pokémon anime series is simply called Pocket Monsters, a direct reference to when the anime first began back in 1997. The setting takes place in all Pokémon regions to date, including Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola and Unova. Ash and Pikachu are returning alongside a new trainer named Go and his partner Scorbunny. Go is described as a 10-year-old boy who’s aim is to catch the Mythical Pokémon Mew, which he remembers meeting when he was younger. The series will officially premiere on November 17, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. JST. Based on the first trailer for the anime, the upcoming series will presumably serve as a reboot that retells the story of Ash and Pikachu.

The first trailer for the new series premiered alongside a special episode on November 10. This episode was hosted by Marie Iitoyo (voice of Lucy in POKÉMON Detective Pikachu). This episode (above) recaps Ash’s adventures so far as well as shows footage from the new series of the anime. Iitoyo is voicing Kangaskhan’s child in the first episode of the new series. Meanwhile, two researchers in the new anime series at Sakuragi Institute were recently revealed via Animedia: Kikuna (CV: Sayaka Senbongi) “A woman with a calm personality.” and Renji (CV: Noriaki Kanze) “It seems unlikely at first glance, but his abilities are excellent. His rough hair is his trademark.” Animedia has also revealed that Go’s Scorbunny is voiced by Megumi Hayashibara, while Koharu’s Yamper is voiced by Inuko Inuyama. The ending theme to the new anime series is produced by Junichi Masuda of Game Freak.
